About Albert Jerome Goldenstein

Albert J. Goldenstein, 79, of Waters Edge Circle, West Palm Beach, FL, died on Sunday (August 25, 2002). A resident of Middletown for 42 years, Goldenstein previously lived in Boynton Beach, FL. Born March 27, 1923 in Mount Vernon, NY, Goldenstein served from 1942 to 1946 in the U.S. Army Air Corps, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He and his bride, Joan Spatz Goldenstein, moved to Connecticut in 1955 to be near his sister and brother-in-law, the late Minette and Herbert Zlokower. He was the owner of Tri-State Laundry Supply Company and Albert's Restaurant. After selling Albert's Restaurant, he went to work for United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney Division, until he retired in 1991. Goldenstein was a one-time candidate for City Councilman in 1969 in Middletown's first ever Democratic primary election. A long-time member of Middletown's Congregation Adath Israel, he also was a member of B'nai Brith and a Hadassah Associate. He served as a member of the Middletown Kiwanis Club, the Middletown Lodge No. 771, B.P.O.E., and St. John's Lodge No. 2, A.F. & A.M. After Goldenstein moved to Florida in 1996, he continued to pursue his passion for painting, resulting in a showing of his art work in West Palm Beach. A dedicated family man, his favorite pastime was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Goldenstein was an inspiration to his family and friends, and a positive thinker who believed that "the best is yet to come." Besides his wife, Joan, he is survived by four daughters, Susan Goldenstein Lichtman, Donna Goldenstein Fein, Linda Goldenstein, and Barbara Goldenstein Leeman; a sister, Frances Ward; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, August 27, at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Delray Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Hadassah, or the charity of the donor's choice.
