OBITUARY
Albert L. Luzinas 84, of Lincoln Avenue, passed away Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on January 19, 1922, he was the son of John and Nellie Luzinas.
He lived here his entire life and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1940.
He worked for Bigelow Sanford for a time, and later entered the US Army Air Corps and served during World War II.
Following the War, he returned to Amsterdam and began a long career in law enforcement. He joined the Amsterdam Police Force, first serving as a patrolman, later as a Captain of the Youth Bureau. Al retired in 1984 after attaining the rank of Police Chief.
He was a member of the Police Benevolent Assoc., the American Lithuanian Veterans, former American Lithuanian Club, Knights of Lithuania and St. Casimir's Holy Name Society. He was a lifelong communicant of the parish. He was also a member at one time of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in the city.
In his youth, Al played semi-pro football with the Amsterdam Zephyrs team.
On June 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Edna Schell.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children; Peter and his wife Martha Luzinas of Cohoes, and Alessa and her husband Stephen Wylie of Amsterdam; a brother, Edward Luzinas of Amsterdam and a grandson, Justin B. Luzinas.
His brothers, Stephen and Anthony Luzinas, and Leo Degutis, and a sister, Agnes Besko all predeceased him.
Nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service at St. Casimir's Cemetery.
