About Albert Jansen Van Steenwyck

Kingston baptisms and marriages: Aelbert Jansen van Steenwyck, tailor and soldier, marries Hilletjen Hendricks (of Meppelen, near Steenwyck; present-day Meppel) 27 January 1664, then Pietertie Pieterz, and he and P.P. have several children. 2 August 1685: Albert Jansen and P.P. baptize a daughter Pietertie; witness is (apparently his sister) Aeltie van Steenwyck. Albert Jansen van Steenwyck was apparently the Wildwyck secretary, which would make him already an adult, at the time that the estate of Jan Albertsen van Steenwyck (presumably his father) was closed. An Albert Jansen, local secretary, is called as a witness in some of the closing documents. See also 5 September 1686 for Aeltje Steenwyck, who may have been one of the minor children referred to in the settlement of the will. 4 September 1687: Altje Albers, “j.d., born in Kings Touwn,” marries Aaron Jacob, j.m. born in Albany

The contemporary genealogist Barbara Boram has research that indicates that Albert is NOT related to Jan. (~• as I have the tree here ~ MvB)

" It is most important not to mix up the different Steenwyck families: a)Albert Jansz van Steenwcyk a tailor arr. 1662 married several times(.) his last record is in 1696 no known “William” b)Jan Alberts van Steenwcyk died with wife and unborn child in the Wyldwijk massacre in 1663, is not son of a) Albert"

But it is my (MvB's) operating theory that (b) Jan is (perhaps) the father of (a)Albert.... or closely related. Steenwyck was, after all, a small community. Perhaps Jan and Ida's return to the Netherlands had something to do with Jan's coming back "with" them...(?)

The arrival of the ships Faith and Fox in New Netherland were in the same year.

from the work of Barbara Boram by permission: "Albert Janse van Steenwyck father of Antje van Steenwyck Arr. 1662 on ship”the Faith” rec. as Albert Jans van Steenwyck –tailor” (Ships passenger’s records, Olive Tree genealogy) Albert Marr. 27 Jan. 1664 in Kingston , Ulster County Hilletje Hendricks widow Andries Barentsen Andries Barents from Drente with wife and nursing child—arrived by 6 June 1660 (not 1659) on the ship “The Faith” on the same ship sailed Roelof Hendrickse and Femmetje Hendricks –a maiden-. Hilletje Hendricks is sister toFemmetje Hendricks and Roelof Hendricksen…they were recorded as “…..Hendricks van t”Veld” "
