"Alexander Anderson, son of John A., Principal of St Leonard's College; educated at Univ. of St Andrews; M.A. (23rd July 1697); licen. by Presb. there 22nd Feb. 1700; ord. to Kemback 26th Sept. that year ; trans, to Falkland 13th May 1702; called April 1724; trans, and adm. 14th April 1725; elected Moderator of the General Assembly 8th May 1735; died 9th Nov. 1737, aged about 61. He marr. Isabella (died 1720), daugh. of Francis Hay of Strowie, and had issue— James of Newbigging, advocate, born 1719, died 29th June 1794 ; Margaret (marr. (1) Laurence Watson, min. of the Second Charge, (2) Lauchlan M'Intosh, min. of Errol)."
