Spurious Pedigree

It has been claimed, in at least one pedigree published by MyHeritage, that Alexander Baird, here treated, is the son of John Baird and Agnes Bryson, and that he was baptised in 1768. MyHeritage: Alexander Baird This is wrong. Alexander Baird, here treated, married Martha Buchanan In 1780, and it follows that he cannot possibly be the child of the same name who was born on 10 October 1768. After all, he would only have been twelve years of age if he had survived until 1780. It follows that he is not the same person as Alexander Baird, secundus

Marriage

Alexander Baird married Martha Buchanan. The date of the marriage has not been discovered, but they were booked for proclamation at Glasgow on 27 October 1780. The marriage record reads as follows: "Alexander Baird Coalhewer in Barony Parish and Martha Buchanan P[arishione]r in Glasgow".
