Son of Alexander Grant IV Sheuglie
James Grant born 1713 in Shewglie, Urquhart, Inverness-Shire, Scotland
Fought for Prince Charles. He was one of the men of Urquhart who surrendered to Ludovic Grant of Grant at Balmacaan on 4th May, 1746, on the promise of protection. Among the surrendered was Alexander Grant of Shewglie, and his son James, as well as the Rev. John Grant, Minister of the Parish, who had shown sympathy for the Prince's cause. All the men of Urquhart and Glenmoriston who surrendered - 16 from Urquhart and 68 from Glenmoriston -- were kept prisoners in the Gaelic Church, Inverness, until they were transferred to a Government ship, which sailed with them on 22nd May for Tilbury Fort on the Thames. Old Shewglie died in the Fort. His son and the minister were, in response to petitions to the Government, allowed to return home. [ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ked1/MacKay1.html ]
