About Alexander McIntosh
In the 1901 census, Alexander McIntosh is listed as being a US subject. at this stage I am not sure whether he was born in the USA but certainly by the time he was married in 1881, he was living in Whitehaven in Cumberland, and his first 3 children were also born there. He does not appear to have moved to Liverpool until about 1890.
In the 1871 census, his place of birth is given as Scotland but at the time he was living with his parents in Carlisle - his occupation is given as a feed shopman. His father is listed as being an engraver. His youngest brother Robert is also noted as being born in Ireland around 1864.
In the 1881 census, Alexander's father and mother and younger brother Robert were still living in Carlisle. His father was now a gardener and Robert was a draper. The address was 194 Boundary Road
