First, he was responsible for the supply of the tsarist army in Western Siberia, then he developed and monopolised alcohol trade there. After leaving the tsarist service, he still had a contract to provide food to the military, but he also focused on building factories and mines. But our businessman wasn't just focused on making a fortune. He founded nurseries, schools, eateries and churches. But most importantly, he employed Polish exiles (Sybiraks) in his factories, paying Russian officials (which, of course, was not legal) for moving Poles from heavy labour to one of his enterprises. Often, after the end of the sentence, he paid the cost of return of his employees back to the country.
