Death of Mr. A. B. Jones.-Our'obituary notices to-day contain the name of Mr. Algernon Burdett Jones, a,gentleman at one time of considerable marie in this colony, and ioho in several public capacities has . done the State good service in the efficient and honest dis- charge of public duties at a time when thc state of society offered many temptations to a. less upright conduct. . . . Mr. Jones arrived in Tas-, mania in 1833. In Novem- ber, 1835, he was placed in thc Commission of the Peace, ' and was appointed under the Imperial Government as visiting magistrate at West- i bury. In 1845 he removed < to Glenorchy, and resided there until 1846, when he was appointed Police Magis- trate at Brown's River. In 1851 lie becatne Superinteii dent or chief officer of the Queen's Asylum, New Tenon, and folio-wing his being placed on thc Imperial pen- sion list was, in 18G3, a}> pointcd Police Magistrate of Hobart Town, and continued to discharge thc duties till 1871, when he retired on a pension by the Colonial Government.
