Alice Bracewell

The oldest surviving Grantham Parish registers begin in 1562. Our oldest known ancestor was Edmund Bracewell, a saddler, born about 1510. The oldest probate records shows he died in Grantham on March 27, 1560.

"He held land in Grantham, Lincolnshire, held by freehold and by soccage, of the Queen of England."[8]

Edmund Bracewell married Alice about 1548 possibly in Grantham Parish, Lincolnshire, England. NOTE: Young (1999, p 136) names no spouse for Edmund. He did have a widow, who she suggests may have remarried because no death is recorded for her at Grantham.

1. JOHN BRACEWELL, b. abt 1555, Grantham, County of Lincolne, England. May have been the verger in the Cathedral
2. GEORGE BRACEWELL, b. Abt 1561 , Grantham, County of Lincolne, England (not named by Young, 1999)
3. ROBERT BRACEWELL, born 14 May 1553[citation needed] (Young, 1999, p 136, writes "born by 1550; married Jane ____.") Grantham, Lincolnshire, England; he died 23 Sep 1613 Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. He married Jane (some say Roberts)[citation needed] 14 May 1583 in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England.[citation needed] (Note: this date is the date of Robert's father's inquisition post mortem, not of a specific marriage.)
4. Possible other children are Susan.

Young names his children: Gulhaem [William], called Senior filius in his father's inquisition post mortem, presumably died before 1583 without issue."; Robert; two daughters; and possibly "?" John, verger in the Cathedral Church of Lincoln 20 Feb 1599/1600.[9]
