About Alice Dickinson
William Alexander's will in 1773 leaves 45 pounds to "my daughter Alice Dickinson" and makes "my son-in-law Jacob Dickinson" the residuary legatee and executor.
William's wife, Margery, has always been supposed to be the daughter of George Lowthian, Rector of Whitfield; the proof is a letter in the Northumberland Record Office (NRO23 4 W 2/14): "on Friday last I went with Wm Alexander, the uncle of George Lowthian [the younger, solicitor to the Whitfields during the sale of the Whitfield manor, and who drew up the wills of William Alexander and Jacob Dickinson.
George Lowthian's wife is mentioned in her mother's will, proved at York in 1698.
