• FITZALAN, EDMUND, Earl of Arundel (1285–1326), son of Richard I Fitzalan, earl of Arundel [q. v.], and his Italian wife Alisona, was born on 1 May 1285 (Cal. Genealogicum, ii. 622). In 1302 he succeeded to his father's titles and estates. On Whitsunday (22 May) 1306 he was knighted by Edward I, on the occasion of the knighting of Edward the king's son and many others, and was at the same time married to Alice, sister and ultimately heiress of John, earl Warenne (Ann. Worcester in Ann. Mon. iv. 558; Langtoft, ii. 368). He then served in the campaign against the Scots, and was still in the north when Edward I died. .... etc.
• By his wife Alice, sister of John, earl Warenne, Arundel had a fairly numerous family. His eldest son, Richard II Fitzalan [q. v.], ultimately succeeded to his title and estates. He had one other son, Edmund, who seems to have embraced the ecclesiastical profession, and to have afterwards abandoned it. Of his daughters, Aleyne married Roger L'Estrange, and was still alive in 1375 (Nicolas, Testamenta Vetusta, p. 94), and Alice became the wife of John Bohun, earl of Hereford. A third daughter, Jane, is said to have been married to Lord Lisle (compare the genealogies in Eyton, Shropshire, vii. 229, and in Yeatman, House of Arundel, p. 324).

• Edmund FitzAlan, 9th Earl of Arundel[a] (1 May 1285 – 17 November 1326) was an English nobleman prominent in the conflict between Edward II and his barons. His father, Richard FitzAlan, 2nd Earl of Arundel, died on 9 March 1301, while Edmund was still a minor. He therefore became a ward of John de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, and married Warenne's granddaughter Alice. In 1306 he was styled Earl of Arundel, and served under Edward I in the Scottish Wars, for which he was richly rewarded.

• John de Bohun, 5th Earl of Hereford (23 November 1306 – 20 January 1336) was born in St Clement's, Oxford to Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford and Elizabeth of Rhuddlan, a daughter of Edward I of England.
• After his father's death at the Battle of Boroughbridge, the family lands were forfeited. It was not until after the fall of the Despensers that John was permitted to succeed to his inherited position as Earl of Hereford and Essex and hereditary Constable of England.
• He married firstly, in 1325, to Alice FitzAlan (1314-1385/86), daughter of Edmund FitzAlan, 9th Earl of Arundel, and secondly to Margaret Basset (died 1355).[citation needed] After the marriage, it was discovered that the couple were related to the fourth degree of consanguinity and they were forced to live apart. An appeal to the Pope resulted on 19 February 1331 in a papal commission to the bishops of Lichfield and London to hold an enquiry into the case.[1] However, Roger Northburgh, the Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, failed to act and the case was still pending when the Pope issued a further demand for an enquiry in 1334. [2]
• He did not play much of a public role, despite his high titles and offices, most likely because he had some sort of incapacity.[3] His younger brothers were often deputed to fulfill his duties as Constable. He died at Kirkby Thore, Westmorland and was interred in Stratford Langthorne Abbey, London.

• John married secondly, Margaret Basset, the daughter of Lord Ralph Basset, and Joan de Grey, daughter of Lord Grey of Wilton. They were married before 19 Feb 1331, again the date of dispensation as they were related in the fourth degree, and had no issue.

• RICHARD FitzAlan, son of JOHN FitzAlan Lord of Clun and Oswestry & his wife Isabel de Mortimer (3 Feb 1267-9 Mar 1302, bur Haughmond Abbey, Shropshire). He succeeded his father in 1272 as Lord of Clun and Oswestry, and as owner of the title and honour of the castle of Arundel, and had seisin of his lands 8 Dec 1287. He was created Earl of Arundel [Sussex] in 1289, although this is the last time that the old title Earl of Sussex is heard of[99]. “Ric comes de Arundell et dom de Albo” confirmed donations of property by “bonæ memoriæ Wil. filii Alani antecessoris nostri” to Shrewsbury Abbey by charter dated “die Martiis in festo Annunciationis beatæ Mariæ anno regni regis Edwardi vicesimo”[100].

He was loyal to King Edward II but was captured in Shropshire by supporters of Queen Isabelle and beheaded without trial, and subsequently attainted whereupon his honours were forfeited[101]. m (1305) ALICE de Warenne, daughter of WILLIAM de Warenne & his wife Joan de Vere of Oxford ([May/Jul 1287]-before 23 May 1338). The History of the foundation of Walden abbey names “Alicia Arundell” as the wife of “Johannes de Boon, comes Herefordiæ et Essexiæ” and records that she was buried at Walden[102]. A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey records the marriage of “Johannes de Bohun comes”, son of “Humfredus octavus”, and “Aliciam filiam domini Edmundi comitis Arundeliæ” after the death of his father, and her burial at Walden[103]. m (Papal dispensation Feb 1325) as his first wife, JOHN de Bohun Earl of Hereford and Essex, son of HUMPHREY de Bohun Earl of Hereford and Essex & his wife Elizabeth of England (St Clements 23 Nov 1306-Kirkby Thore, co.
