About Alice Millicent Lainham
John Hende had A daughter Alice, who had married Robert de Laynham and had a daughter with him named Millicent, who had in turn married John Smith of the Cressing Temple family.

Alice's Smith descendants later made claims based on their descent, through her, from the mayor John Hende. (As the famous genealogist Horace Round pointed out very forcefully, she was however not an heiress as claimed by some much later Smith genealogists.) It appears she was only a half-sister to her two brothers both named John Hende, who were the real heirs of their father with the same name. Debates arose because their direct line ended.
