MRS. ALICE JANE STEADMAN.
The death occurred in a private hospital in Taree at 1130 a.m. on April 29 of Mrs. Alice Jane Stead- man, wife of Mr. Frank Douglas Steadman, of the Old Bar Road, at the age of 68 years. She had only been admitted to hospital the previous day, although she had been ailing for several years. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sol. Cross of Old Bar Road. Deceased was a woman well liked and highly respected. Sons and daughters are: Mr. Edward Steadman, Old Bar Road; Signaller John Steadman, A.I.F.; Mr. Harry Steadman, Murwillumbah; Edna (Mrs. Ambrose Payne, Campsie); Edie (Mrs. John Jennings, at home, her husband being at war with the A.I.F.); Mrs. Polly Steadman, Dumaresq Island; and Miss Jean Steadman, Old Bar Road. Signaller John Steadman was for two years and eight months in the Middle East, returned to Australia, and after 14 days' leave went to New . Guinea, where he developed malaria, from which he is still suffering. He obtained leave to come home to see his mother. Mr. Harry Steadman did not arrive home In time to see his mother alive. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, April 30, after a Service which commenced at 1 in Taree Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. W. T. Cross, who later completed the burial service in the Redbank Cemetery.

The death occurred in Nurse Lang
ley's Private Hospital, Taree, at 11:30
a.m. on Thursday of Mrs. Alice Jane
Steadman, wife of Mr. Frank Stead-
man, of the Old Bar Road. She had
been ill for some years, and was taken
to hospital by ambulance on the day
before her death. Deceased was a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Cross, of Old Bar Road, and was 63
years of age. Her early life was spent
in the Berrima district, but for over 20
years sho has lived on the Old Bar Road,
where her husband has a property. The
late Mrs. Steadman was held in affection
by all who knew her. In addition to
her husband, she leaves the following
children: Mr. Ted Steadman (Old Bar
Road), Signaller John Steadman, AIF,
who is at present home on leave after
service in the Middle East and New
Guinea; Harry Steadman (Murwillum-
bah), Ida (who, is living with her hus
band, at Murwillumbah), Mrs. Ambrose
Payne (Campsie), Mrs. John Jennings,
who is at home during her .husband's
absence with the AIF, Miss Polly Stead
man (Dumarosq Island), and Miss Jean
Steadman (at home). The brothers and
sisters include Messrs. Herb and Fred
Cross (Old Bar Road), Mrs. Alf Par-
menter (Old Bar Road), and Mrs. Sid
Gilfillan (Koorainghat). At 1 p.m. on
Friday a service was conducted at the
Taree Methodist Church, after which
the cortege proceeded to the Redbank
cemetery. Rev. W. T. Cross, conducted
the services at the church and grave
side, and Mr. S. W. Bridge carried out
the funeral arrangements.
