Alice Mae Splitstone

Alice was born in Hackensack NJ and moved with her family to various places including Indiana before moving to Plainfield Ct during her junior high years. She was a member of FHA (Future Homemakers of America) while at Plainfield High School. She graduated from PHS and sometime later moved to the Mercer County area of PA to live with relatives there. It was while she was working at Murphy's that she met George Splitstone. They dated for a very brief time. He got his sister to invite her over to his family's home for Christmas in 1956. He had won a bracelet and earring set at the Murphy's Christmas party and all the women in his family liked it but he told his mother it was for his future wife (they hadn't really dated yet). He presented it to Alice for Christmas that year. They were married on February 16, 1957. They had two daughters and in 1961 moved back to Plainfield Ct due to job opportunities.

Her mother always told her she couldn't learn to crochet because she was left handed. Her eldest daughter (who was also left handed) taught her in 1972 and she crocheted many wonderful afghans, doilies and tableclothes from then on.

She was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in September 1987 and died October 4, 1987.
