Proof of age for Alice daughter and heir of Richard de Sancto Mauro, chevalier, junior, and Mary his wife, Writ 21 February 1424.

The jurors say that she was born in the city [of London] in the house of Thomas Cressy, late citizen and mercer of London, in the parish of St Lawrence Jewry parish in Cripplegate ward, on 23 July 1409 and was baptised in St Lawrence’s church in the same ward. She was aged 14 years on 23 July last. John Stanley, knight, rode to St Laurence ’s church with three horses when she was baptised, and acted as her godparent. Philippe wife of Thomas Fauconer was asked on the day of Alice’s birth to be her godmother, and she acted as godparent and named her. Alice, late wife of Richard Whityngton, was asked the day of Alice’s birth to be her godmother, and she acted as godparent and named her.

The IPMs for Richard de Sancto Mauro, in 1423, mention Mary his widow gave birth to a daughter named Alice who is his daughter and heir and whom William Lord de Zouche, knight, married. Alice was aged 14 years on 23 July last [b. 1409].

  • Alice Seymour, Baroness Saint Maur was born posthumously on 24 July 1409.1 She was the daughter of Richard Seymour, 5th Lord St. Maur and Mary Peyvre.1 She married William la Zouche, 5th Lord Zouche (of Haryngworth), son of William la Zouche, 4th Lord Zouche (of Haryngworth) and Elizabeth Crosse, before 8 March 1423/24.2 She died after 1430.2
