About Alof Omni Smith
The above photo was found on Ancestry.com. It depicts the family of Silas Derryfield Smith and Ellen Johanna Larson Smith, taken in about 1910. Pictured are: back row, left to right, Alof Omni, Seraphine, Silas Reuel, Ethel, and Mons. Front row, sitting, Mae and Josephine...middle row, Ellen Johanna Larson Smith, holding new baby, Ellen, and Silas Derryfield Smith. According to Alof Omni Smith's Utah Death Certificate, he was 27 years, 9 months and 1 day old when he was killed due to a compound fracture at the base of his skull caused by a mine accident when he was struck by a rock. At the time he was working as a bank laborer for the Utah Copper Company in Bingham, Utah. His death certificate indicates he was single at the time of his death, and that he was living at 468 3rd Avenue in Salt Lake City. He lived for one day after the accident and died at 8:05 PM on January 1st, 1926. He had been born in Snowflake, Arizona, to Silas Derryfield Smith, born in Iron County, Utha, and Ellen Johanna Larson Smith, born in Santaquin, Utah. Alof was buried January 5, 1926, in the Wasatch Lawn Cenetery in Salt Lake City, Utah. The informant on his death certificate was his father, S.D. Smith, who also was living at the 468 3rd Avenue location at the time.
