Civil War Union Private with Company C 11th West Virginia Infantry Regiment. Mustered into service, Dec. 22, 1861. Discharged 12-31-1864 in Wheeling.

Notes for Alpheus Norman: A son of James Nedley and Catherine (Summers) Norman, was born at Normantown VA (WV) 10 Dec 1824 and died in Calhoun County WV, 10 Oct 1899. He married Elizabeth Bunnerf, 5 Jun 1845. Elizabeth was born in 1820 and died 5 Aug 1859. Alpheus married Catherine (Jarvis) Goldsmith, a daughter of Thomas Jarvis and the widow of James Goldsmith in Calhoun County VA (WV), 29 Feb 1860. Catherine was born 7 Mar 1828 and died 28 Aug 1886.

  Alpheus and Catherine had no children of their own but adopted two. There were also at least two children of James Goldsmith.

  His second marrage to Catherine (Jarvis) Goldsmtih 29 Feb 1860. She was born 7 Mar 1828, Lewis County VA. Alpheus adopted her two children.
