When you examine the math on the birth and death dates of Alser ap Tudwal, he would have lived for 120 years. I did (an admittedly tiny amount of) research and it's mentioned in several sources that there were probably 2 people with the same name who were combined at this point. Since the names followed the paternal line, it's possible that the line was something along the lines of Alser ap Tudwal, Aelan ap Alser, Alser ap Aelan, Aelan ap Alser. Other variations are possible as well, or it's even possible that dates are incorrect for several individuals, which could shorten the approximate "lifespan" here.

One thing that I didn't not find any dispute on was whether this was a continuous line. There were some genealogies that do not list Tudwal as the son of Rhodri, but it often occurs that a member of the line isn't listed. There was nothing, as far as I have so far found, that argue that he was not his son, but several that argue that he is.
