Conquistador under Hernán Cortés. He was killed in the siege of Tenochtitlan which was the final, decisive battle that led to the downfall of the Aztec Empire, 1521.
Alonso Perez de Zamora, his father, Alvaro Perez, and his brother Alvaro Perez de Zamora arrived in New Spain on a ship outfitted by Hernando Medel 15 days after Navarez had been detained by Cortes. He was a vecino of Mexico City and received the encomienda of Tolcayuca (40 miles northeast of Mexico City near Pachuca; two barrios in 1569). Half was taken by the crown by 1525. Perez was married and had five daughters and six sons. His father was killed during the siege of Tenochtitlan. His Brother, the encomendero of Mazatlan (18 miles south-southwest of Tehuantepec), was also a vecino of Mexico City A daughter, Maria, married Adrian de Benavente. Perez died c. 1560 and was succeeded by his son, Alonso. By 1643 the Perez share of Tolcayuca had escheated.
