Alvina D. (Schmolke) Couchman, 93, of Duluth, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at Benedictine Health Center.
She was born on Aug. 28, 1915 in Alberta Canada to Friedrich and Elizabeth (Jendro) Schmolke.
She worked in advertising. Alvina enjoyed crafts and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her 19 siblings.
Alvina is survived by her daughters, Judy Palen of Duluth, Nancy (Arnold) Pundsack of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Interment at Holy Family Cemetery, Hillman, Minn. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805, 218-727-3555.
She was the youngest out of 19 children. Her father and his wife were from Germany. His first wife past away and he later met and had more children with his second wife also from Germany. They settled in Canada where Alvina was born.
She was laid to rest at Holy Family Church on Bulldog Lake in Pine Center MN. Many of her relatives have been laid to rest in the same cemetery.
