About Amalia Maria Charlotta von Holstein-Gottorp, Princess of Sweden
Princess. She belonged to the Oldenburg Dynasty, daughter of King Gustav IV Adolph and Queen Frederica. She was inflicted with rickets as a young child and had a deformed spine and body. When she was four years old her father and mother were dethroned and their whole family had to go into forced exile. As an adult, she lived with her brother, the deposed Crown Prince Gustav of Sweden, at Hacking near Vienna, Austria. She and he and their two sisters had been given a non-territorial courtesy title, "of Vasa" by the Emperor there. Princess Amalia was known to be friendly and likeable, but also somewhat ornery. An avid music lover, she greatly admired Jenny Lind and would sup with the famous songstress on occasion. Amalia never married. She must have been visiting her sister, Grand Duchess Cecilia of Oldenburg, when she died as (according to Lagerqvist and Åberg) she is buried there, it can be assumed in the same latter-day mausoleum as Cecilia. Their original graves were devastated in World War II.
