From the 1860 Athens County, Ohio - Waterloo Township page 33 is recorded as a family grouping: Amos Dowler Age 26, Male, Farmer, Value of real estate = , Value of personal property = 78, Place of Birth = Oh. (DOB 1834) Eliza Age 24, Female, Place of Birth = Pa. (DOB 1836) Amanda Age 7, Female, Place of Birth = Oh., (DOB 1853) William Age 5, Male Place of Birth = Oh., (DOB 1855) Hiram . Age 3, Male Place of Birth = Oh., (DOB 1857) From a pamphlet, written by Warren & Barbara Dowler, 695 E. Second St., Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 on July 1991, and given to me by the Athens County Genealogy Society, I extracted the following: 1. Amos served in the Civil War. Received the following e mail: Thanks so much for your file. I am afraid I can't be much help to you. I can add some history..Amos Dowler moved to Pike City Ohio with his sister Jane and her husband, Hiram Grandstaff. Jane died and Hiram took the younger children to Arkansas. He died ., and his older daughter went to Arkansas and brought the children back. Amos and Jane are buried in Laparrell Cemetery on Stewart Hollow Rd in Pike County. If you are on the Amos Dowler line, we have a picture of his headstone and also other Dowlers in that cemetery. Also, I have a friend in Athens that went to school with some Dowlers'. She is in her mid forties and graduated from Alexander HS in Athens City. If and when I get moved there, she said she would introduce me to them. We also do a lot of cemetery hopping in Southern Ohio and spend a lot of time in the courthouses, libraries, archives and etc. We even check jail records, we haven't found anything there yet, but some of it is funny .If you need any research done and if the good Lord is willing, I will be back there and all moved in within a month. thanks again rife@bellsouth.net From the Pike County Genealogy Home Page: To locate this cemetery, go west from Latham, Ohio, State Route 124 to Lapparell Road (bear right at the Fish Hatchery); second road to the left past the Fish Hatchery. Cemetery is in the churchyard of Lapparell Community Church: first built in 1800, last remodeled in 1972.
