"...I remember the Hollyhocks and the catalpa tree and the tall phlox that they called “Kings Crown” that grew in the yard. My baby brother Loren was with us on this first trip. I think it was when I was 6 or 7 that we celebrated Grandpa Lyons 80th birthday and Uncle Loren and the photographer and mama were all very much annoyed with each other. The photographer had set Grandpa and Uncle Loren in place first and then arranged the group of grand children around him. Long before he was ready to snap the picture Uncle had had enough! The photographer suggested a swat on the tail. Mama thought that the photographer was to blame to expect a little boy to sit still while the others were being arranged but she didn’t say anything just then, but you can bet she never went there to have any more pictures taken (Yes, we got the picture and Uncle still looked mad)."

Loren was her younger brother, and her baby sister was Carol. The photo she refers to is the one seen above. In it you see Amosa Lyon and his 6 grandchildren. Avis Hawks, Loren Hawks (note the expression on Loren’s face.) Myrtle Shore, Iva Shore, Amosa Shore, Carol Hawks.
