About Anastasia Nellie Hrytsak (Kiez)

I was raised on the family farm 5 miles east and north of Oakburn. Being the oldest I had to help my mother in taking care of my 8 siblings. My school days were at St. John's School and Braddock School. At Grade nine I left school and became a domestic servant for the McIntyre family in Strathclair, Manitoba. Soon after this I met my future husband John Hrytsak. We were married and I moved in with his family and helped with the household duties until we were able to move into our home across the road from Alex Hrytsak's farm. We were located one mile east of the town of Oakburn. It is here that I spent the rest of my life, raising a family, Donald, Nestor, and the twins Roxie and Roman.

We were active in the Ukrainian Orthodox church, the Ukrainian National Home (Ukrainian Cultural Centre), the Lecia Ukrainka Society, the Oakburn School District, Shoal Lake Municipality and the Farmers Union.
