From The Anderson Family History by Albert G. Anderson, Jr., 1949:
Anders Mikkelson and Rong Bjolgerud
Leaving a person's native land is hard but when one is past fifty it becomes even worse to leave everything behind. This was the hard decision Anders Mikkelson Bjolgerud and his wife Rong had to make. They had a beautiful farm at Modum, Norway, and all their friends and relatives lived there, too. Here also their ancestors were buried, but they decided to come to America. So in 1852 with their children, they set sail for the new land.
Anders was born at modum in 1794 on his parents farm. His name was Haugsund but when Anders purchased a gaard by the name of Bjolgerud, he took this name. Ronog was also born at Modum on June 15, 1799. Her surname must have been Gunhus for her brother Erick went by this name. He came to America in the forties and settled at Primrose, Dane County, Wisconsin. Also a sister of Ronog, Christie Reddern (Colby) came to America. Leter both Erick and Christie with their families settled in Minnesota.
Anders and Ronog were the parents of four children, namely: Gunhild, Guri, Maren, and Mikkel. Guri was the only one of the children not to come to America in 1852. She came later [in 1869] with her husband, Anders Herre and their two children, Nels and Reggine.
Their only son Mikkel died the first winter after coming to America in 1853. He was ten years old and was buried in a small cemetery near the old Bowers school at Primrose. Many old pioneers are interned here.
Anders bought a farm in the northeastern part of Primrose Township. Here these two elderly people lived and worked to make themselves a home. Somtimes they became very lonely for their native land but like true pioneers they stuck it out. Religion was very important to their lives, and they became active members of the Primrose Church. On September 9, 1871, Ronog passed away. Anders sold the farm and went to live with his son-in-law and daughter, Andreas and Maren Anderson. Here on August 13, 1880, he died at the age of eighty-six years. Both are buried at Primrose Cemetery.
