About Anderson N Rose
Anderson Rose was born in about 1822 in Morgan County, Kentucky. (The census of 1850 lists him as 32 years old and the census of 1870 shows him as 49 years old.) He later moved to Breathitt County, Kentucky. He was a farmer, with property worth approximately $2,000. He was married to Eleanor Murphy, Born 1822 – Died 1 July 1870) on 18 June 1843. When Anderson left of the war they had four children (Mary age 4; Lydia Ann age 3; William R. age 2; and Paulina age 7 months). He served in the Civil War as a cavalryman in Company G of the 8th and 12th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (Commanded by Col. A. R. Shaklett), Confederate States Army.
Anderson participated in many campaigns under the command of Confederate Generals Joseph E. Johnston and Nathan Bedford Forrest. The more significant campaigns were Union City Tennessee, Paducah, Ky., Brice’s Crossroads and Harrisburg, Mississippi, Middle Tennessee Campaign, Nashville, and Northern Alabama.
He is listed on the rolls as a prisoner of war at Citronelle, AL. The unit was surrendered to Major General E. R. S. Canby, United States Army on May 4, 1865. He was paroled at Columbus, Mississippi and returned home on May 16, 1865.
The census of 1870 lists him as 49 years old, still a farmer with $2,600 in assets, and having 11 of his 14 children still at home (Logan age 20; Paulina age 18; Matilda age 16; Travis age 14; Samuel age 13; Jane age 13; Robert age 12; Malisa age 8; Anderson age 6; Michael age 6; and John age 5. Nancy (1846). Lydia M (1847), and William (1848) did not live at home at the time
