Brief overview:
Andre (56), was shot dead on his farm Mooitoekoms near Viljoenskroon, on 30th December 2001.
Andre and his wife, Nelia, had been visiting friends, and arrived home around 17h00. When they entered the house, eight attackers, were waiting for them. They opened fire, and Andre was seriously wounded. He managed to get out of the house, but was shot again, and collapsed and died near his vehicle. Nelia was also wounded, and taken to the Boitumelo hospital in Kroonstad.
Police arrested eight suspects. The first arrests were on Tuesday night, Captain Rosa Benade said in a statement on Wednesday. She said detectives also recovered two 9mm pistols stolen, articles of clothing and jewellery. A third pistol was also confiscated. Northern Free State police commissioner Immanuel Molale visited the scene on Tuesday. He appealed to farmers and their workers in the area to be very careful and vigilant and to report suspicious people on their farms.
