Andree M Beattie

Andree M. Beattie, age 65, of Marshall, died , October 18, 2007.

Andree was born June 23, 1942 in Marshall to Clifton E. and Vida Levado (Huff) Wise.

She has lived in the Marengo Township area and Marshall all of her life.

She graduated from Marshall High School in 1960.

After her high school graduation, while helping her father at the former Inland Orchard, she met Donald L. Beattie. Don was smitten right away and did his best to get her attention, and did! After dating Don, and carefully checking him out, she let herself fall in love and the couple was married on August 14, 1965 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Andree worked at Professional Business Bureau in Albion after she graduated from High School.

After her marriage, she took some time off from the workforce to have and start to raise her children.

When her youngest, Jaime, entered kindergarten she became a Teacher's Aide at Hughes School. She also had worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for O'Dell Chiropractic Clinic, Dr. William Boelter's Dental Office, the Iron Worker's Local in Battle Creek, and at the former Yesteryear's Restaurant in Marshall.

In 1980, Andree became the Manager of the newly formed Marshall Firefighters Ambulance Service. She completed training and passed the state licensure exams to become an Emergency Medical Technician. With her combined skills, Andree was instrumental in getting the fledgling organization up and running. She operated the office as secretary, bookkeeper and manager. At the same time, she would respond on ambulance calls, caring for friends and family in her community. In the late 1980's she took a hiatus from ambulance work.

In the mid-1990's she returned to the Marshall Firefighters Ambulance Service, this time to be the office manager. Again, she proved to be a key person in regards to keeping the service operating and serving the community. She retired in 2004.

Andree was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and a past member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Marshall Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. She was a familiar sight to Marshall firefighters at emergency scenes with the ambulance, and helping to provide support with food and drink at major incidents.

She liked to work crossword puzzles and do cross stitch work.

As a youngster, she was a member of 4-H. Andree had been a Blue Bird Leader. Family events, especially anything with the grandchildren, topped her list of "to do" things! Andree's entire family, close and extended, have enjoyed a very close relationship during her life, and she provided much of her family's strength and "glue" over the years.

Much fun was had over the years. Snowmobile trips, fishing trips, family meals, and working in her flower beds were times Andree enjoyed. She collected antique cans and chickens, often while traveling on road trips with sister Rosie. Husband Don served as the "wheelman", taking the trio on tours of southern Michigan most often on a whim.She liked to go up north to the family cabin.

She was preceded in death by her sister Cindy Lou Wise, her mother Vida L. Wise in 1956, her step-mother Genevieve B. Wise in 1996, her father Clifton E. Wise in 2002, and her sister-in-law Phyllis Wise in 2006.

Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery.
