About Andrew McFadden
Andrew McFadden was born in the highlands of Scotland in 1675. He moved to Ireland, where he married and lost his wife, Mercy Mallory. After ;osing his first wife, Andrew married Jane Lindsey, and together beacame parents of James b 1701, Daniel, and Andrew Jr.
While in Ireland he lived in a town of Garvo in Londonderry on the River Bann, a pleasant place called Sommersett. Andrew belonged to a band of protestants who were beseiged by the Catholics in Londonderry, so they came to America in 1718. James was 17 years of age.
They settled in the wilderness of the Kennebec county of Maine, in a place called Merrymeeting Bay. "it was a point of land between Cathance and Abagudusset Rivers a little northward of Buck Island now called Senters Pt." according to his wife, Jane in a court hearing later. The place was used by fisherman who came there to catch Sturgeon, but were the first settlers on the place and named it Summersett after the place they lived in Ireland. They also had a daughter they gave the same name, but they called her Simme for short.
They lived there until the French and Indian War broke out, then through fear of Indians, they fled to Arrowsic Island, to a garrison later called Georgetown. They were still living there prior to when Andrew died in 1737
