Andrew enlisted 09DEC1862 at Benton, AR as a private in Company A, 11th & 17th Consolidated AR Infantry of the CSA. The company muster roll for 31DEC1862 to 30APR1863, the last roll on file, shows him present. The Union prisoner of war records show that he was captured 16OCT1863 at Grand Gulf, MS and was imprisoned at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, IN where he died 4APR1864. He is also shown to have deserted from the CSA, date of desertion not found. L H Kemp was Captain of Co F of the same organization. It is the understanding of Ann Veazey Whitledge (1993) that the family never knew what happened to this son. Ironically, his father was killed during the war in July of 1864, only three months after his son was killed. Note the information on (345) Andrew Jackson Veazey of KY, whose son, Noah died in a Union POW camp.
