About Andries Claesen

Andries Claesen's (1644-1710) parents were born and married in The Netherlands and immigrated to New Netherlands. Andries Claesen (1644-1710) was baptized at the Dutch Reformed Church in New Amsterdam on 22 February 1644. It is believed that his father died very soon thereafter. On New York tax lists for 1655 and 1658 Andries Claesen is listed as "exempted". In 1664, at the time the English were taking over, Andries Claesen is listed as living on Smee Straat between Wall and Pearl Streets in New Amsterdam, New Netherlands.

Andries Claesen (1644-1710) married Pryntje Michielse Vreeland (1649-1711) in 1668 at Bergen, NJ and they had 8 children there. Andries Claesen and Pryntje Michielse are still listed as members of the NY DRC in 1686 and with a Pearl Street, NYC address. It appears, however, that they lived at Bergen, NJ. The first 7 children were baptized at the DRC in New York City and the 8th child was baptized at the Bergen DRC and the "birth" dates on the Family Group page are actually their baptism dates. Andries Claesen and Pryntje Mishielse Vreeland have death records in the Bergen, NJ books and were buried at the Bergen Dutch Reformed Churchyard.

Daughter Fytje Andriese Claesen (forn 1671) married Abraham Reyniersen Van Giesen (1666-1753) in 1691 at the Bergen DRC by his father, the voorleezer there. She was listed as of Communipaw in the marriage record and so it is possible that her family lived in Communipaw in Bergen, NJ. Abraham and Feytje Van Giesen lived in Essex County, NJ at Second River and then at Third River and they raised 9 children. His death is recorded in 1753 as at Acquackanonk, NJ.
