About Andries Vermeulen

Andries Vermeulen Dordrecht 1763 - Dordrecht 1814 Andries Vermeulen was born in Dordrecht on 23 March 1763. He was trained by his father Cornelis, himself a landscape painter and art dealer who is mainly known for his copies after famous masters. Andries specialized in landscapes after seventeenth-century Dutch models. He originally painted landscapes in the manner of Meindert Hobbema, but later preferred to paint ice scenes that resemble the work of Isack van Ostade in style, for which he is chiefly known. He also created marine paintings and summer landscapes, and made drawings after Albert Cuyp. He worked for some time in Amsterdam, where he died on 6 July 1814.
