About Angell Hollard
notes
From The New England Historical and Genealogical Register The Society, 1909 - New England Vols. 37-52 (1883-98) include section: Genealogical gleanings in England, by H. F. Waters.page 381-385 "Brooking, Thornton, Ballantine, Hollard" by Charles Thornton Libby
The clearest record is that of Hannah. Under the year 1052: "William Ballantine was married to Hannah Hollard daughter of Angel Hollard 23rd-5th month by William Hibbins." Ballantine was a cooper, and thrifty. Twelve children were born to him, the last Sept. 19, 1009. Deeds among the heirs show that he died, and that his widow promptly married William Long, mariner, to whom she bore four children, the last May 15,1677. She was soon the " Widow Long," running a lodging house. Hannah's oldest child, Col. John Ballantine, was a popular and successful citizen of Boston, and his son, John, bred at Harvard College, married a daughter of Adam Winthrop. An account of the Ballantines is given in the Register, vol. 6, p. 371, and Hinman prints a letter written to John3 Ballantine, Esq., by his grandfather's brother, John Ballentine, dated at Ayr, Scotland, 1707.
