About Ann Arnold Phoebe Charlton Taney
The American Catholic Historical Researches ..., Volumes 18-21, p.225 Married Chief Justice Roger Brook Taney on Jan. 7, 1806 at her parent's home in Frederick County, Maryland (also the home of her birthplace). It was agreed on ante-nuptial contract that their boys would be brought up Catholic (the faith of their father) and that the girls would follow their mother's belief. They had 6 girls and no boy issue from the marriage.

Dates to resolve:
- Birth Date: 12/15/1777 vs 1/19/1777 vs 1783
- Death Date: July 1777 vs c. 1780 vs 1855 (seems some thought she died as an infant; others not. Maybe there were two of them, one who died young?).
My records show four children born of Capt. John Ross Key/Ann Phoebe Penn Dagworthy Charlton. They are listed here:
Anne Charleton B. 1777, Died in infancy; Francis Scott Key B. 1779 D. 1843 (Married to Mary Tayloe Lloyd); Catherine Charlton B. 1781 D. 1782; Ann Arnold Phoebe Charlton B. 1783 D. 1855 (Married to Roger Brooke Taney)
Never heard of a Dorothy. Maybe an "error"?
Most likely a slave belonging to the Taneys.
