About Ann Whitt

Parents: Father: Walter DAUX b: Abt 1620 & Mother: Mary UNKNOWN, widow of Plaine. (1)(2)

  • The father of Ann Daux and her sister Susanna, his name Walter Daux, son of Richard Daux, merchant of London, had died in 1658. The girls had an older stepbrother, his last name "Plaine" and all three of these children were called "orphans" in court records circa 1660's. even though their mother Mary (Plaine Daux, Flowers) was still living.
  • In 1658 Mary married a third time to a recent immigrant John Flowers and by using the legal system he took over total control of the estates of Mary's first two husbands. On record were several land tracts that had belonged to Walter Daux - one being near that of Edward Hill's plantation; also there were Daux's tobacco shipments, and a 750 acre tract of Robert Plaine's described as being in the same area as Daux's specifically between Herring Creek and Turkey Isle Creek.
  • As if to reinforce his status, Flowers, obviously in favor with County authorities, in August 1659 was sworn in as Constable of Shirley Hundred shire.  (1)

Married:

  1. bet 1669 & 1674 in Charles City,Albermarle Cty,Royal Colony,Virginia to John Witt. He was born 1645 in  Ross,Herefordshire,England

John Witt evidently had four sons, though whether Ann Daux was the mother of all four is unknowable. Such descendants of these second-generation Witts as have been tested share common DNA, proving that they all descended from the same common male ancestor.[26] That John Witt was their common ancestor is likely from their proximity to John Witt’s last known location and the absence of other Witts in the area. There must have been daughters as well, but we have no clues to their identity. (3)

Children include

  1.  William "Guillaume" Witt b: 1675 in Charles City,Albermarle Cty,Royal Colony,Virginia
  2.  John Witt II (c1680? – dby 1751)
  3. Richard "Oney" Witt, Sr.  b: 1690
  4.  Edward Witt b: 1695

Notes

  •  When combined with surviving colonial Virginia records for the surnames Witt and Whitt, the Witt-Whitt family study leads to the conclusion that John Witt II, William Witt, Edward Whitt, and Richard Whitt, Sr., were brothers and their father was the emigrant John Witt-Whitt of Charles City County, Virginia. There simply are no other records that identify any other possible candidate for the father of these four men, and no historical record indicates any of the four men immigrated to Virginia. The Witt-Whitt family DNA study also identified the common ancestor of these four men was from England, which includes Scotland. This DNA study also puts an end to the long standing family tradition that Richard Whitt, Sr., was adopted and raised by William Witt. (4)
