Anna-Mart (21), was murdered in Tiny Town in Church Street, Pretoria, on Tuesday morning in the house she shared with her brother, Christiaan (23).

Anna-Mart was studying graphic art at Technikon SA. Her brother studies publishing technology at the University of Pretoria.

"It is a pity that something like this should happened to the new generation of South Africans who are so optimistic and positive. They are the next generation who have to carry us and in this way, their trust is violated," said Mart Meij, their mother from Val Grace in Pretoria.

Two men overpowered the brother and sister early on Tuesday morning.

Meij said Christiaan woke up and saw two men in his room. They apparently asked for his wallet and cellphone.

"He told them it had been stolen from the house the previous week," Meij said. They tied him up and gagged him. The men then went to Anna-Mart's room.

Captain Piletji Sebola, police spokesperson, said it seems as if a struggle ensued between her and her assailants. She was shot in the neck and stabbed several times with a sharp object in the head and face.
