Dr.G.M.Samuel was born on September 13th, 1897 to Dr.G.Manuel of Attoor and Mrs.Sara Manuel of Palliyadi. He had his early schooling at Thiruvattar. Unfortunately he lost his mother when he was about fourteen years with three younger brothers and four sisters. After his matriculation at the Scott Christian High School, NAGERCOIL, he joined the Medical School at Neyyoor and finished the course creditably. He was then appointed as a junior doctor and he had the privilege of working under Dr.Ramsan, Dr.Davidson, Dr.Pugh, Dr.Ori and Dr.Somerville. His surgical skill was very high. He had a special training in Tropical Medicine under the famous Dr.Ronald Ross of Malasia fame.

While at Neyyoor he married Annammal the youngest daughter of Mr.John Sahayam and Mrs.Salome Sahayam. They had two daughters Sarojini and Padmini born at Neyyoor. He was transferred to Nedungolam near Quilon when his third daughter Rani was born. Soon after he was transferred to Attingal, the then biggest mission branch hospital.
He was very hard working as well as efficient in his work so much so he was the Kilimanoor Palace Physician. He expanded the hospital and built various buildings. At Attingal John Manuel, Ida Salomie and Stella Retnavathy were born.
Annammal Samuel was a gracious and pious lady. She was interested in Church activities and all social activities. She made us teach the poor children and old ladies to read and write . A pioneer in adult education, she started the Dorcas Society in the Attingal Church.
Our house had many cows, fowls, peacocks, guinea hens and dogs as pets. With six children and all the pets and servants she was always busy but found time to sing and to teach songs for the village Church choir. She was blessed with a melodious voice which she retained till death. Her patience is proverbial and she had the special blessing of giving happiness and cheer to all who came to her.
Dr.Samuel passed away on April 30th, 1961 at his daughter’s house at Neyyoor and Mrs.Annammal Samuel died on December 10th, 1974 at her only son’s house.
