About Annie Elizabeth Rogers

Annie was born to Francis J. Grimm and Mary Wright in New York City, in 1841. Her father was born in Germany and was thought to be of some relation to the Grimm Brothers of Grimm's Fairy Tales fame. Annie's mother was born in New York, although some stories have her mother being born at sea before arriving in New York.

Annie and sister Susan were both "book folders" in their early 20's as listed in the 1860 census. This is probably the connection to the William Rogers family as they were connected to printing and publishing in New York.

At age 21, Annie was married to William Charles Rogers on Dec. 24, 1862, in New York City.

William and Annie had two children.

1. William Cogswell Rogers, b. 1863; d. 1940 in Riverside, California; m. Sarah Roe Laing, daughter of Edgar Hall Laing and Mary Varick Roe of New York, in 1888. They had two daughters, Hazel Estelle Rogers and Inez Dudley Rogers.

2. Charles Francis Rogers, b. 1870; d. 1900 in New York City; m. Josephine Alexandrine Marie Harrison, daughter of Robert C. Harrison from England and Josephine Alexandrine Roullier from France, in 1891. They had one daughter, Josephine Harrison Rogers.

William and Annie lived the last eight years of their lives in Cummington, Massachusetts. In this Northern Bershires area, they had purchased the Riverside Inn, (which was later renamed "Dudley Manor" by the Rogers family).

On July 6, 1912, Annie died of a heart ailment. After her death, husband William died 48 hours later.

Their death records indicate that they were brought to Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, by their surviving son, William, for burial on the 10th of July.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Oct 3 2022, 7:27:38 UTC
