About Annie Scott

Biography

Annie Smith was born on August 25, 1846, in Smailholm, Roxburghshire, Scotland.[1][2][3][4][5]. Her parents were James Smith and Jean Cairns.[1][2][6]

At the time of the 1851 census, Annie and her family were living at Midlem Old Manse, now Burn Cottage, Roxburghshire. Her father was a Dyke Builder.[2]

In 1861, Annie was working as a Domestic Servant for the Hendersons, a farming family at Millrigghall.[3]

Annie married David Scott, a Shephard, on February 2, 1866, at Midlem Old Manse.[6] Together they had the following children: David Scott;[7] William Scott;[8] James Smith Scott;[9] Jane Scott;[10] George Cameron Scott;[11] Robert Scott;[12] Thomas Scott;[13] John Cairns Scott;[5] George Henry Scott.[14]

In 1871, the family were living at West Grange Home Farm, Culross, Perthshire.[4]

By the time of the 1881 census, the family have moved to England and were living on Church Rd, Darley, Derbyshire.[5]

Annie immigrated to New Zealand with her husband and seven children on the ship 'Trevelyan,' arriving at Port Chalmers, Dunedin, on Dec 30, 1883.[15]

The family settled near Oamaru.

Annie died on February 3, 1921, at the residence of her son-in-law, J. Ferguson, 105 Eden Street, Oamaru.[16][17][18] She was buried on February 5, 1921, in Oamaru Old Cemetery.[17][18]

Headstone Inscription

I.L.M.O. David Scott, died 8 April 1904 aged 64 years also his beloved wife Annie died 3 February 1921 aged 74 years. "Peace perfect peace." Also William Scott son of above died 3 January 1945 aged 77 years.[18]
