About Ann Dow

Disputed Origins

Not the daughter of William Story & Sarah Story Ref: https://archive.org/stream/fostergenealogy03pier#page/123/mode/1up

She is [NOT] the daughter of William Storer (Story) who died in 1658 and his wife Sarah Starbuck, daughter of Edward and Catherine (Reynolds) Starbuck, who married 2nd Joseph Austin and 3rd Humphrey Varney.

No daughter Ann seen for William Storey

Sarah Varney

CAUTION: Disproven Information

It is often claimed that Sarah’s first husband was William Storey or Storer and as the “widow Sarah Storie” she married Joseph Austin as his second wife. The claim is justified by a second claim, that administration of William Story’s estate was granted to Joseph Austin, Sarah’s second husband.

However, William Story’s widow married Samuel Austin, not Joseph Austin. Administration of Story’s estate was granted to Samuel Austin 27 July 1661, based on an Inventory of Story’s estate taken 8 October 1660. Samuel Austin was named the father-in-law [step father] of William and Sarah Storey’s four children.

There is no evidence that Sarah Starbuck was the wife of William Story. Further, she was not old enough to be the mother of his children, the youngest of whom was born in 1640, when Sarah Starbuck was no more than10 years of age.
