Anthony Lancelot Dias, (ICS Officer & Governor of West Bengal.)

Anthony Lancelot Dias Former governor of West Bengal, A L Dias, died in Mumbai on Sunday. He was 92. The first Goan to become governor of an Indian state, Dias had a distinguished career in the Maharashtra cadre of the ICS. His significant contribution as Union food secretary during the foodgrain crisis in the mid-60s got him the Padma Vibhushan. After retirement, he was appointed Lt-Gov of Tripura (1969-71) and then governor of West Bengal (1971-77). Dias also played a major role in the liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule in 1961.
