photo sent by Hana Fryčova
Anton Ehrenzweig was an Austrian lawyer & Jewish refugee who fled Vienna in May 1938 after the Anschluss. While in London he met Gerda Hiller & was engaged to be married when he was interned by the British government as an enemy alien & transported to Australia. On the outward journey his boat the Duneira narrowly avoided being torpedoed by a U-boat. On his release he married his fiancee & embarked on an entirely new career in art, music & psychology. He had undergone 10 years of psycho-analysis in Vienna & he used that knowledge to analyze the creative process & to write 2 books on the history of western art & music from a depth-psychological perspective. His final book - the Hidden Order of Art - was only completed a day before his sudden & premature death from a heart attack on 5th December 1966.
