About Antonis (Tony) Athanasiou Antoniades

Antonis(Tony) Antoniades emigrated to South Africa in 1960,together with his brother, Johnny( Ioannis) and worked for his uncles, Iacovos (Jack) Jacovides and Avraam (Abe) Athanassiades. They owned Mayfair Restaurant in Estcourt, KZN and the Astra Bakery, which Tony and Johnny later bought from them. As their other brothers, Demosthenes, Aris, Jack (Iacovos) and Avraam, and their wives, and their sister, Elli and her husband, all emigrated to South Africa, the businesses were sold to them, or they moved to other areas and bought other businesses, such as Aris and Ioannis in Empangeni. Tony and Demos later bought Midway Restaurant in Estcourt, and were joined by Jack. They also bought Midway Motors. Tony and his family moved to Cyprus in 1992, but Angela and Pieter, and Mark, all returned to South Africa. Mark later emigrated to Australia and married his Australian wife, Rebecca.

After Tony returned to Cyprus, he started Palm Grove Restaurant with his family and his half-brothers, Anthoulis and Memnon, then later started Palm Grove II, which was sold and became the Sienna. Caravelle Restaurant was also added, then the half-brothers bought out Tony, and he worked for a while with Ezeville developers, selling property, and also started his own coffee shop. He resigned from Ezeville, and sold the coffee shop, and started his own developing company, A.Antoniades Land Developers. Kythera complex in Chloraka was his first development, then he started another in Peyia, Mosfili Peyia, and was in the process of developing a third complex when he suffered a heart attack, and passed away on 27th December, 2002.

His early life in Panayia, even while still attending school, was spent helping in a coffee shop, to support his mother and siblings, while his father was in a British concentration camp during the fight against the British.
