Joseph Helberg (my father) says that his grandfather went from Poland to Palestine in 1923. He doesn’t know who else went with him, but that Yakov, Aliza’s father, only came in 1933 when nazis came to power.

His father went to Antwerp already in 1907 to an aunt. He was a teenager and didn’t want to be drafted into the military in Poland. He learned the diamond business in Antwerp.

He went to Amsterdam in 1915 because The Netherlands were neutral in the first world war and Belgium was at war. He worked there with a Mr Hamburger, who was Rosette’s father. That’s how he met his wife.

He’s not sure when they went back to Belgium (better for the diamond business) but they got married in Antwerp in 1922. Note from Yona
