ARMAND VEAZEY, CORNETIST, MUSIC TEACHER, IS DEAD
Armand P Veazey, 65 years old, who in his youth toured the nation as "America's youngest cornet soloist" and was for many years band leader at West End, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday at his residence, 2608 Peniston street. He had been in ill health for the past two years. Born in St Martinville, Mr Veazey began touring the country as a cornet soloist when he was about 17 years old and in the late 1890s he came to New Orleans to lead the military band at West End. He continued as band leader there for about 10 years. Mr Veazey also played in various theaters as a member of the house band and became leader of the band at the old Strand theater. He also led bands at the race tracks and at various functions requiring music. About 15 years ago he stopped playing the cornet and devoted all his time to the teaching of music, continuing until recently. Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Alice Pons, one son, Chester Veazey, and a granddaughter, Shirley Veazey. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today from the Pat J McMahon-Coburn Funeral Home, 2305 Canal street, with religious services at Our Lady of Lourdes church. Interment will be in the St Louis cemetery No 3.

Born in St Martinville, Mr Veazey began touring the country as a cornet soloist when he was about 17 years old and in the late 1800s he came to New Orleans to lead the military band at West End. He continued as band leader there for about 10 years.
