When Arthur Bryan Nelson was born on December 1, 1896, in White, South Dakota, his father, Peter Nelson, was 48 and his mother, Dorthea (Mary) Heilesen, was 33. He married Bessie Jackson on July 16, 1924. They had two children during their marriage. Art & Bess lived most of their married lives in and around the city of Wetaskiwin. In about 1945-46, the family moved to the northern Alberta city of Athabasca - long enough to build a home there, but came back a year later. They built their home in Wetaskiwin in 1947 and Art lived there until his death. Arthur spent time farming, and once had a coal delivery business (he sold the business just before Wetaskiwin got natural gas). For many years Art worked for the city until his retirement at the age of 70. He was a very honest and compassionate man, who also had an amazing work ethic - qualities that he was able to pass on to his children & grand children. Arthur died on June 18, 1988, in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, at the age of 91, and was buried there.
