According to "A Dark History: Vikings," published by Metro Books, New York, NY, author: Martin J. Dougherty, (c) 2013, Gudrod the Hunting-King attacked the Kingdom of Agdir.
"At the time, there were many small kingdoms in the Viking world, and Gudrod sought to increase his power by marrying the daughter of King Harald Red-Beard of Agdir. When his overtures were rebuffed, Gudrod took a more direct approach. He landed a force in Agdir, killed Harald and his son in battle, and kidnapped himself a royal bride. She bore him a son, known as Halfdan the Black, and eventually had her husband killed before returning home. Halfdan duly became King of Agdir and inherited half of his father's kingdom as well, becoming the powerful overlord that his father had sought to be. The murder of Gudrod took place, if the sagas are to be believed, around 840 AD, ..."
