About August Oktavian Fournier

August FOURNIER was born 19 June 1850 in Vienna, and died 18 May 1920 in Vienna. His full name-Octavian Augustin FOURNIER, Hofrat, Uni-Pro, Dr. phil., as an important Austrian historian and politician. August FOURNIER, whose father was from Braunseifen-Brown Sugar in Moravia, spent his childhood in Pecs Hungary and Vienna. After studying history at the University of Vienna followed by a PhD (1872 Doctorate of Philosophy) he undertook numerous research trips throughout Europe - and - otherplaces - Paris, Berlin, Marburg, Fulda and Munich. In 1885, he began his most important work "Napoleon - A Biography.

In 1874, FOURNIER Kanzlist in the archives of the Ministry of the Interior, and later became its Director. In 1877, he stands in the files of the old Hofkanzlei on the secret treaty on mutual succession in the house of Hapsburg. In 1883, he was appointed Professor of Modern History at the German University in Prague, while there had also had political involvement. In 1891, he moved as a Member of the Reichstag for the German Progressive Party of the "United German Left" in the Austrian Parliament. In 1892, as a Council member of the Prague Parliament (MP for the district Decin Bodenbach). In 1900, he returned from Prague to Vienna and took back the first 1903 call for the General Chair of History at the Technical University of Vienna. From 1903 to 1920 he taught as an ordinary university professor of Modern History Education at the University of Vienna. In 1909 he became a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Best-known disciple of FOURNIER is the historian Alfred Francis PRIBRAM. FOURNIER's grave site is located in Vienna's central cemetery.

August FOURNIER three Napoleon Biography (a total of four German language editions, each foreign language issue in New York, London, Paris and Budapest) is regarded as a scientific standard work. It is by far the most important work of Napoleon's research from an Austrian perspective. A large-scale work on the Congress of Vienna remained unfinished. From his parliamentary work- FOURNIER was considered a brilliant speaker - persuade countless speeches. He has published numerous monographs, essays and writings about the history of Austrian foreign policy and reasoned together with the writer Dr. Anton BETTELHEIM (his brother-in-law) the 22 volumes of comprehensive "New Austrian biography from 1815". He is considered the leading historian of the decaying Habsburgerischen era. The Fourniergasse Lainz in the 13th. Distirct of Vienna (Heitzing) is named after August FOURNIER.
