In 1728 the Jesuits Mission-to-the-Huron was founded. This church would become the Parish of Assumption. From the Assumption Church records, Margaret Charbonneau married Augustin "Rala" dit Bastien on Feb 13 1809, son of Francis "Rala" dit Bastien and Mary Lacasse. Their record also shows "Bala", (dit Bastien) Augustin wed Mgte. Charbonneau, daughter of Jn. Bpte. & M. Josephte Pelletier, on Feb. 13 1809. It appears he drop this name and went by Bastien. He migrated southward to Upper Canada, before 1809, then settled in Assumption area, which is now known as Windsor, until 1824, when he moved his family to Amherstburg. Copy enclosed. He was granted 100 acres of land, on Jan. 19th of 1820, under the township of Sandwich, by the General of the Militia. Carpentry was his trade, while being a farmer. In 1831, he purchased park lots 9 & 10 on Lot 24. By 1840, he had purchased lot 26, west side of Brock St. in Amherstburg. By 1941, he had 3 cows, a calf, 4 horses and 5 pigs. He also had 100 pds. of butter and 19 pds. of cheese on hand. Grew oats, corn, potatoes, hay and tobacco. George Burns, ninety years old, was living with him in 1851. (born 1761) and raised Archange (Clemoses sister), between 1851and 1861. On Jan. 11 1858, he sold twenty-seven and three tenths acres to the R. C. Episcopal Corporation of the Diocese of London. It was the land abutting St. Johns Cemetery, to the east on south-west corner of townlines running along what is now known as Meloche Rd. They lived in a story and a half log cabin. This land now belongs to the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Amherstburg. Lived with his son Augustin in 1861 Some of his children were know to have gone by "Rocon" and later "Rock". Laid to rest at the age of eighty-four. Bartholomue Burns may be the George Burns that is staying with him.
